The Virginia State Reading Association is working to create a children's library in Winneba, Ghana, which currently has only four dilapidated textbooks in five schools. The library will also have computers and room for after-school classes.
In 2006 we connected with Ethiopia Reads and helped them to create a model library at a school in Addis Ababa. Imagine NOT having a school library. The cost was $10,000 to create a library and run it for three years! This included shelves, desks and over $2,000 books. We created the library in honor of Tammy’s Mom who passed away seven years ago. She was very into education and those in need. There are now ten model libraries with many more to come.
