Students, upon not passing their 10th grade exam, can't attend school anymore.
The Cunningham Foundation's HOPE Heart Beads Project can help.
Some of the students at Project Mercy have the opportunity to learn the art of glass bead making which will enable them to make a living.
These Heart Beads are sold in the United States for $25. American High School students have started wearing Heart Beads to school dances - a souvenir for the rest of their lives to replace their dying corsages.
Stately beginnings...
The HOPE Heart Bead project started in 2005 when Governor Bill Ritter's son, Abe, went on the yearly trip to Ethiopia. Jeannie Ritter thought it would be a great opportunity for the students at Project Mercy to connect with the students in Colorado for a collaborative fundraiser.
Big impact
The Heart Bead project has raised over $75,000 and continues to grow throughout the country as a way for High School students to raise money for students to go to school in Ethiopia.
